Description: The paint has lost adhesion and is coming off in single or multiple coats.
Cause:
- Improper surface preparation.
- Moisture was present at the time of application.
- The appropriate coating was not used.
- There were paint incompatibility issues.
- There was contamination on the substrate before painting, e.g. silicone, WD-40, etc.
Prevention:
- Eliminate the source of moisture.
- Clean the surface of all contaminants.
- Use the proper paint for the job, a pure acrylic latex.
Cure: Strip the surface of all failing paint using a power wash if feasible. Feather sand any rough edges. Repaint with the appropriate primer or sealer and then apply the finish coat.
